Poison paradise
Poison paradise :
Beneath its toxic clouds and atmosphere, the surface of Venus is covered in thousands of volcanoes and mountain ranges, and it may once have held a vast surface ocean, which may have vanished because of the planet’s volcanic structure.
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system, with temperatures soaring to 900ºF (475ºC) on its surface. The severe heat is due to runaway greenhouse gas effect, which traps heat under the planet’s carbon dioxide atmosphere and sulfuric acid-comprised clouds that blanket our closest planetary neighbor.
Image description: The Mariner 10 spacecraft captures an image of Venus, which appears in wispy white with stripes of red and tan. The planet is almost entirely visible, with its right side giving way to the blackness of space.
