@NASAHubble captured the outstretched arms of a large spiral galaxy about 100 million light-years away in the constellation Camelopardalis.
Around 200,000 light-years across, this galaxy is roughly twice the size of our own Milky Way galaxy, with a similar shape and composition. Young stars appear in blue near the outskirts of the galaxy, while older stars appear toward the center in red.
Image descriptions:
Image one: The blue galaxy’s blue-tinted spiral arms emanate from the galaxy’s center toward the right side of the image, which glows yellow-white. Galaxies and stars dot the foreground.
Image two: On the left side of the image, the faint yellow glow is visible from the galaxy’s center, and the blue spiral arms of the galaxy form semi-circles rippling outward.
