It’s haute couture for those who dare :
Earlier this year, @NASAHubble captured both sides of Jupiter with its stripes, storms, and even one of its many moons. Fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet in our solar system, Jupiter is often sought from skywatchers from their backyards to space telescopes like Hubble and @NASAWebb.
Jupiter’s stripes are cold, turbulent jet streams of ammonia and water that surround the gas giant, floating in an atmosphere of hydrogen and helium. Hubble’s new look at Jupiter shows some of the evolution of its cyclones and anticyclones, like the great red spot and its southern twin, dubbed Red Spot Jr., which dot Jupiter. The most volcanic planetary body, Jupiter’s closest Galilean moon, Io, appears in the second image.
Image descriptions:
Jupiter has horizontal stripes of orange and white, which ebb and flow across the planet. The gas giant appears textured with its clouds and storms varied in size. In the second image, Io appears as a small orange dot in the lower left of the planet surrounded by the blackness of space.
