This galaxy has an edge on the rest 💫
@NASAHubble captured this nearly edge-on view of a lenticular galaxy, a galaxy that has an elliptical shape and lacks the well-defined arms of a spiral galaxy. This particular galaxy resides around 60 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation Virgo.
This galaxy is likely the result of a galactic merger with a nearby galaxy roughly 1.3 billion years ago. The distinct dust lanes around its center may have resulted from this cosmic collision.
Image description: Lenticular galaxy NGC 4753 holds a bright-white core, surrounded by a tube of dust lanes that predominantly appear dark brown in color. A variety of faint stars fill the background of the image, which is suffused by a white glow.
