 Happy Saturnday⁣ :

⁣The second largest planet in our solar system and the sixth planet from the Sun – Saturn – is known for its iconic rings, which stretch 175,000 miles (282,000 km) out from the gas planet. Comprised of mostly hydrogen and helium, Saturn has no solid surface and is blanketed in jet streams and storms, with winds reaching 1,600 feet per second (500 meters per second).⁣

A perplexing storm sits on Saturn’s North Pole, a hexagon-shaped jet stream spanning about 20,000 miles (30,000 km). First discovered by the Voyager I spacecraft, Saturn and its peculiar storm were captured in 2013 by our Cassini spacecraft, which studied the gas giant until 2017.⁣

Image description: Saturn appears half-lit in gold, blue, and tan shades. A hexagonal storm appears faintly in tan at the top of the planet’s pole. A shadow extends, blocking out the planet’s rings, which appear as tenuous lines of white and tan.⁣
