⁣This mosaic features three nebulas that are part of the Orion Molecular Cloud: The Flame Nebula, the Horsehead Nebula, and NGC 2023, taken by our Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE. ⁣

Despite the name, there is no fire coming from the Flame nebula. What makes it so bright is the blue star, Alnitak seen to the right of the central cloud. On the lower right of the image, you’ll find the Horsehead nebula which can be easily recognizable in visible light by its silhouette of a horse’s head. The bright circle on the lower half of the image is the third nebula, NGC 2023, also classified as a reflection nebula for the dust that reflects the visible light from nearby stars. ⁣

Image description: At the center of the image a beaming bright cloud of gas and dust is surrounded by red “flames” of gas and dust all around it. One bright circle of dust lies below the bigger cloud at the center. In the darkness of space, there are specs of blue and green colored stars of all different sizes filling the background and spread sparsely. ⁣
