Don't you love New York in the fall?⁣

Don't you love New York in the fall?⁣:

Sept. 23 marks the first full day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere in 2023, and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. In autumn, shortened daylight and temperature drops trigger plants to slow and stop the production of chlorophyll, the molecule that plants use to synthesize food, causing them to change colors. Earth-observing satellite Landsat 9 captured this process in the Adirondack Mountains in 2022.⁣

Each planet in our solar system has seasons, though they vary in length and intensity, the length of season is determined by the degree of tilt as the planet orbits the Sun. As Earth orbits around our solar system, its 23.4-degree axis tilt points the poles toward the Sun, creating the four seasons.⁣

Seasons on some of the planets in our solar system are barely noticeable owing to their distance to the Sun and relative tilt. Venus has a very slight tilt, and seasons last around 56 days with no large changes to the weather. Seasons on Neptune are a different story due to a similar axial tilt as Earth, each of Neptune's four seasons last for over 40 years.⁣
